Packing guide

How to pack furniture and fragile items for storage

Good packing prevents damage and saves space. Use strong boxes, keep weights manageable and prepare furniture before moving day rather than trying to wrap it beside the unit.

✓Use strong matching boxes
✓Label more than one side
✓Keep boxes liftable
✓Protect corners and surfaces

Prepare furniture

Clean and dry furniture first. Dismantle large pieces where practical, keep all fixings in labelled bags and avoid sealing timber or leather in airtight plastic where trapped moisture could cause problems.

Pack fragile belongings

Wrap items individually, fill empty space so contents cannot move and mark the box on its top and sides. Plates are generally safer packed vertically with cushioning than stacked flat.

Build a stable unit

Place strong heavy boxes low and lighter boxes above. Do not create unstable columns. Protect furniture edges, leave ventilation gaps where appropriate and keep a simple inventory outside the unit.
